Our story

Checks and plaids that make ordinary days brighter.

Think of a child's room, a sunny kitchen, a favourite shirt. The fabrics people remember are the cheerful ones: a gingham curtain catching morning light, a plaid shirt worn soft from love, a bedcover in colours that make you want to stay in.

That is the cloth we deal in. EnKay Fabrics & Co. is a family business that has traded cloth in Delhi since 1960. We supply export-surplus checks, plaids, twills and stripes, made to the standards overseas brands ask for and offered to makers, shops and homes at fair prices.

Established1960

Cloth runs in the family.

EnKay began as an offshoot of a larger family business run by five brothers. Cloth has been our trade, our dinner-table talk and our tradition for as long as anyone can remember.

Our home is Shanti Mohalla, in the lanes of Seelampur beside Gandhi Nagar, part of one of the largest cloth markets in Asia. Export-surplus cloth has long been traded here, from a few metres for a sample to bulk lots. It is the trade we grew up in.

Where we come from

More than a business. A way of life.

Where we come from, cloth is not something you sell. It is the first thing you learn. Children grow up between bolts of fabric and know a good weave by touch long before they can read a price tag.

Mornings begin with a new bale unrolled. Evenings end over chai and talk of colour. Our family has measured its days in metres and found them well spent.

Every check and plaid we sell carries a little of that: patience, pride and the quiet joy of cloth done right.

From bolt to wardrobe

Every shirt begins as a length of cloth.

A few metres leave our shelves and become a school shirt, a Sunday favourite, or a shop's whole winter range. We have watched that journey for decades, and it still delights us.

Gingham for the youngest, tartans for the bold, twills that outlast the wearer's patience. Tell us what you are making and we will find the cloth.
